For retail customers, it always makes sense to take a full 30 minutes to refinish vehicles, even though we can do it much faster.
This is because -- very few people are happy to pay $40 for only 10 minutes of labor.
So this is the procedure we train employees to make as a habit for every car & truck we do.
It is the only way one person can service (3) vehicles, at the same time, whenever there are multiple customers waiting to be next.
We always divide each job into (3) 10-minute sessions, which makes it easy to do (3) cars at the same time:
1) First, we quickly scrub Soft Comet onto each headlight, then wait and let it dry for 8 or 9 minutes.
(we can work on other vehicles during any "wait" time.)
2) Second, we spend 8 or 9 minutes scrubbing the Comet off both headlights and rinsing really well.
3) Third, after waiting another 8 or 9 minutes for the rinsing to dry, we quickly take 2 minutes to wipe both headlights with Klearstar. We outline the edges of each headlight first, taking care not to drip Klearstar on the car's paint, then fill in the middle using horizontal strokes.
Done! (3) Cars in 30 minutes!
To make every job look awesome, we like to squirt strong streams of water around the edge of each headlight to get the dried soap out of the cracks.
We use a Zep, gear driven, power sprayer, which costs $4 at Lowes, Walmart or Home Depot. It sprays a needle sharp stream that blasts dried Comet away. You must have a Zep power sprayer! No exceptions!
We always finish by rubbing each headlight with the palm of our bare hand to make sure all the soap is completely off and the surface is totally smooth.
If there are any rough spots still standing, we make them smooth using a small, battery-powered electric scrubber or a clean, green scrubby pad. Light, wet-sanding by hand with 1200 grit is a last resort.
Here's a time saver -- We always squirt water onto a paper towel first, then wipe. If we squirt water onto the headlight instead of the paper towel, the soap's residue will be sprayed all over the front end of the car. Now we need to wash the residue off the whole car instead of just the headlight.
We use Comet's "Soft Cleaner with Bleach" to remove the embedded dirt and any bad, Yellow Stains from the microscopic holes in each headlight.
We keep Comet's "Soft Cleaner with Bleach" as our own secret ingredient. Customers and employees always think it is our own magic formula. We show customers the Klearstar box if we want to make a retail profit from selling supplies.
To keep it a secret, we always pour Comet into a small, large mouth jar for daily use and throw away the original bottle. Customers never see that we are using Comet.
Green kitchen scrubbing pads are sold everywhere. We buy ours at the Dollar Store and cut them up into 1.5 inch squares for individual use to apply the Comet.
Because Klearstar always works like magic, we tend to forget that it only removes environmental weather damage.
It will not remove any of the toxic chemicals people foolishly try on headlights.
Klearstar will not repair any damage from Clear-Coat Spray Paint, Insect Repellant, WD-40, Solvents, Chemicals, lighter fluid, etc.
If you prefer to keep your fingers clean when applying Klearstar, you can purchase throwaway, nitrile gloves at Walmart:
To help smooth rough spots & erase yellow stains, a battery-powered scrubber from Walmart is useful:
If you ever drip Klearstar onto a car's body paint, you can wipe it off quickly with 70% alcohol.
